Barry Silverman

Music Director & Conductor

Maestro Silverman has been the Symphony's driving force since its inception in 1996. He served as Music Director and Conductor of the Saddleback College Symphony Orchestra for twelve seasons and conducted the Opera Orchestra at Chapman University. Additional conducting assignments have included the Israel Philharmonic, contemporary concerts at the Tel Aviv Museum chamber music series Musica Viva and a number of guest appearances.

His performance credits span chamber music, opera, ballet, jazz, pop and appearances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Israel Philharmonic orchestras. Mr. Silverman has directed percussion ensembles including the Pacific Percussion Ensemble and CAPE, the Contemporary Artists Percussion Ensemble.

While building an outstanding career as both a musician and conductor, Maestro Silverman has spent the last thirty-five years producing educational outreach programs for young audiences. Under his direction and vision, the South Coast Symphony created the Young Stars of the Future competition and concert, and the Symphony's educational outreach programs, Koncerts for Kids.

Mr. Silverman is a Music Specialist for the Capistrano Unified School District and has lectured and taught at universities here and abroad.
